We are going to launch a whole game portal for our clients who are interesting in playing games for the purposes of improving their English skills.. The game would be used in CONJUNCTION with ZOOM, so we're not reinventing the wheel here, ie no need for video chat function. I will describe game one so you can get an idea of exactly what we need. So 6 people log onto ZOOM, then next to their faces, our portal launches. One person is the live moderator. This person will be a trained English teacher. The game is called "The Pretender" and involves the following:
A random card is drawn so that we see a random selection of words in a specific category displayed in a table with coordinates assigned to each word/phrase of the table.
All participants receive a little piece of information individually that tells them which coordinate to look at, re. B5 or C3 or D8 like in Battleship. Only one person receives the info: "You are the pretender!" but no one knows who this is.
The goal of the game is for the other 5 participants to figure out who the Pretender is while the Pretender's goal is to go through the round undetected.
So each participant has to name one word that corresponds to that word in the table without revealing either too much or being soo vague that it could apply to any or all of the words. Being either too vague or too specific gives it away that you're maybe the Pretender since only the Pretender has no idea which word is actually being discussed here and instead has to guess.
Each participant has named a word to go with the word in the table (something they associate with the word, so if the word in the table is STARFISH, someone could say ‘beach’. The next person might say ‘creature’ and the next person ‘shape’, for example. If the Pretender is lucky enough to be the 4th person to have to say a word (there should be a random shuffle each time as to who goes first), then he/she has some opportunity to get ideas about what word they could be talking about since he/she has a choice of all the words on the table..
Once each participant has named a word, the moderator asks for discussion, discussion goes on for as long as the moderator allows, 1-2 minutes, then each participant has to vote for who they think the pretender is and points are allotted accordingly.. That is, 2 points for ‘escaping’ detection as the Pretender since that’s harder and 1 point for correctly identifying who the Pretender is.
