It must sound and be read as naturally as the original text, while conveying the message the author had in mind. I consider I have an excellent academic English, including an excellent writing style. I learned English from native speakers at a completely bilingual school in Mexico City. I am a Certified Translator in Mexico, appointed by the State Supreme Court in Veracruz. I consider that so-called translators that charge extremely cheap are the ones that use some kind of software or automatic translators. For a local speaker of the language, it sounds terrible. I never use those translators. In fact, I usually look in encyclopedia and books related to the topic so I won't even use new terms, but the ones that might already be "standard" in that area.
