Merchants currently using MD5 algorithms will need to upgrade to SHA256 algorithms to avoid interruption to service after this point. MD5 Hash is an outdated hash function that produces a 128 bit hash value. It is considered to be vulnerable and is an unsupported integration type. SHA-2 (Secure Hash Algorithm) is an updated set of cryptographic hash algorithms that is considered to be secure by the payments industry. SHA-256 (256 bit hash value) is the most common bit length in use.
