Hi, I run an advertising agency and need to pass a paragraph of normal text (contained in a .txt file)through a script or online form, and have it output the abbreviated words in a new file ([login to view URL]). called like this: ./[login to view URL] [login to view URL] [login to view URL] The tool can be made via utilizing any of the common programming languages, and contain the "dictionary" "list" of words and their abbreviations in either MySQL, or a .txt file and easily extended by me. I do prefer command line scripts and run Linux and BSD so that's what I request quotes on first. I'd like to run this straight from my linux desktop. A web-app would be a last resort. Example: "10 years experience required." would result in "10 yrs. exp. req'd."

Greetings! What I understand from your description is that you want a program in linux which will take a paragraph as input and will split each word and check for any abbreviation for that word in the database (which can be either mysql or a text file) and replace that word with its abbreviation if available. Right? I have completed a similar task in C# yesterday in which I had to filter words from a paragraph which are present in dictionary (database). You can see my profile for that project review.
