Coldfusion Site Upgrades - Miscelaneous Debugging, etc

I have a website that is designed to be a car classified site, in the mold of AutoTrader or Cars.com. the website is <a href ="[login to view URL]">[login to view URL]</a>. As you can see, the site is designed in Coldfusion 8. My coder has been unable to fix up some of the bugs, and I would also like to see if any improvements can be made as far as speed goes. Nothing major, but the search function seems to be partially flawed, as a couple of listings that are on the site now do not seem to want to come up in search. Also, the site occassionally produces an empty string error,with no real consistency as to when or why it happens. If you go through the site, it occasionally comes up with an "empty string" error, and my regular programmer can't pinpoint that program. The search function does not come up with all the listings, for example if you type in "Volkswagen" it will not come up with the one Volkswagen listing on the site. For the most part, the search is fine, but may have one or two small bugs causing that problem. The search function is also slow, I would like to see what can be done to accelerate it.
