Seeking a one or two page report covering knowledge / efficiencies related to CD audio to MP3 conversion (ripping) and cataloguing. Specifically, I need to convert several personal CD audio collections (approx. 100 CDs in each collection) into MP3 format, then derive and easy method of accessing, categorizing the files. I am assuming that Real Player and Windows Media can organize these after in MP3 format, but if there are other options (third-party or custom tools) such as a simple database / browser that can manage the collection, that would be ideal. I'm seeking bids from techies who have experience with these issues from a professional or personal hobby level. I will likely select multiple bids to obtain composite findings. If you recommend any custom software, I will open private bids via rentacoder, but prefer third-party tools.
Report should answer the following questions:
1) As a general overview, what is the most efficent way to rip a batch of CDs, including recommendations for hardware and software considering the quantities specified earlier.
2) Is it feasible to handle this as an onsite project, using a laptop in conjunction with additional hardware components, such as multidrive add-ons. If so, which tools; if not, why not.
3) What software tools are available for cataloguing MP3s on a hard drive/network?
4) What is an efficient method of updating the catalogue - once again - third party tools / custom tools are fine.
5) Please list other concerns that you think are applicable.
