This very much sounds like it would make a great screenplay. Please give me access to the PDF so I can have a read-through. Meanwhile if you're interested in converting it to a movie I'm your guy: I am an experienced screenwriter who has pretty much become the "Go-To Screenplay Guy" on this site. Thus far, I have won the last screenwriting/script contests here (I joined 2013) and have successfully bid and been awarded the other screenwriting projects some of which are on-going while others I have completed. (I'm currently working on an-ongoing, long-term anime series. Please review my profile to confirm my claims. If you PM (private message me -- in compliance with Freelancer Rules) I can then upload excerpts of my ghostwritten screenplays which did not involve NDAs and will also upload samples of my own personal screenplays. One of the screenplays is in film production as we speak based on my 1st draft contest win about someone's life. You can do a Google search of "My Name Is Nobody" by Phillip Penza to confirm that claim (screenplay adapted from his true-life novel/account).

I would be very interested in looking at your friend's manuscript, as well as the other materials, and compiling them into a book. I think that if what's there already has good content, then with some editing to make sure it is free of error and perhaps a bit polished in some places if need be, you will not have to worry about anything such as raising publication funds. A good book, especially on this subject, will find its way into the heart of most publishing houses that are open to the material.

Hi Philip, I read your posting with great interest and I'd like to express my views on the project. I'm a Canadian freelance writer and editor currently living and working in Thailand where I also manage a small charitable foundation. I have years of writing experience under my belt, having written over 250 short stories, penned innumerable online and magazine articles, and ghostwritten 2 full books (both in the self-help field). Lately, I have been taking on more editing and proofreading work including book manuscripts, scripts for games and films, stories, and academic and business writings. In my own writing, I've also had the chance to work with some very skilled editors who have helped to coach me in improving my writing as well as my ability to edit and re-structure the works of others. I know your friend's manuscript and life story must be very compelling for you to take steps to publish his work posthumously and I would be interested in learning more of the details and the overall message of his work. In order to work through this project, I expect we'd have to go through the following stages which I believe would take around 2 months: 1. Interviews and examination of current manuscript & additional material 2. Structure planning and outline 3. Rough draft preparation 4. Editing and changes 5. I'm sure his family and loved ones will be quite pleased. I am interested to help complete this work and take a look at the PDF file of the draft manuscript. I would need to know how you expect the finished product to be accomplished, i.e. how many pages, format, tone, rate of pay, date of submission and the like. If this is something that you have yet to think about then that would be fine. We can discuss it as well if you prefer. I am open to negotiation and to your instructions. Hi Phillip: I might be a good match for your project. I am an established non-fiction writer having written 10 of my own books and ghostwritten several others. Although I have a PhD in clinical psychology and vast experience as a therapist, researcher, editor, presenter and educator I am fundamentally a story-teller. My psychology expertise, combined with creativity, allows me to write really engaging stories that capitalize on the conflict, emotion and fundamental drama of any situation. I have co-written/ghost written books on business, neuroscience, happiness, near death experiences, etc. etc. Some of the non fiction books I have written have been in the self-help/lifestyle/inspiration space but even there it is about the personal conflicts and drama, For example one of my books on weight loss -- Inspired to Lose -- was a collection of inspirational stories not just "professional advice." It was a best seller. I am busy and only bid on projects I am extremely interested in and where I bring more than just my pen. Currently I am working on a variety of projects including a screenplay rewrite. I have worked on screenplays and a documentary I worked on did win a "medical oscar." Any story can be turned into a screenplay and I could certainly add this dimension if we were to work together. Don't be in a rush -- great story telling takes time. I have over 15 years of experience as an editor and proofreader. I have worked with many top writers such as Brian Lumley and M. E. Patterson and was the Chief Editor for the now-defunct Dark River Press. During that time, I worked with many different publishers and agents to procure some of the very best stories being written at the time. My education extends to a BA (Hons.) English Literature and Cultural History and Imaginative Writing, an MA in Writing Studies, and a PGCE English with Drama. All editing I provide is done with MS Word’s track changes function. This will give you the option of accepting/rejecting every single change I make. Not all writers and editors agree on every change. It’s therefore good for the writer to have the final say. Clearly, this book contains memories and emotions and must be dealt with sympathetically.
