I received a Bachelor's Degree in English and Creative Writing from Allegheny College, and I have studied at New York University to learn how best to line edit someone's work for clarity and concision while maintaining the writer's tone and unique voice.
When I was hired by a Pittsburgh-based company to write its seven-decade-long history, I ultimately became both writer and editor for the book, which was published at 1000 pages. I read thousands of periodicals, notes, articles, and technical specs for the information I needed, and when I returned to the writing to edit, I fact checked every detail I'd included.
As the editor-in-chief for Allegheny College's newspaper, I spent every week proofreading and editing each story for the 8-page paper. My newspaper focused most on hard news, and I was tasked with checking every fact, detail, and line several times before allowing it to print -- any error could have resulted in completely destroying the publication's credibility. Because I have had experience in multiple fields of writing, I know how to edit according to MLA, AP, APA, and Chicago guidelines.
