Clean up and securing of website to prevent attacks/hacking

Our website has been hacked. We therefore need our website cleaned up and secured to prevent this occurring again in the future.
The following steps need to be undertaken;
- Scan website files for malware
- Check website for suspicious files
- Remove any injected code and malicious files
- If applicable; remove the install folder/script
- Obfuscate admin area
- Add appropriate file permissions
- Deleting 2x old websites that are linked to our account that are no longer needed (if this is possible?)
Anything else that you could suggest to help improve website security would be appreciated.
