Convert a file from set point set to 3D model that can be 3D Printed

The original file is .asc or asc2 (a text based file). This is a scan of neurones. I managed to convert to .obj but can't convert it further to a good looking 3D model. This conversion was done in Meshlab. Some people contacted me in another project and they couldn't open the .obj file or did not use Meshlab. So it is required that you either: -Can use Meshlab and open the .obj file (you will get some error but the file will open as set point) -Or convert the original text based file (.asc or .asc2). This is NOT making a model from scratch or simple conversion . And I doubt it can be done in 3D max or maya. PLEASE READ.

I CAN DO IT! I opened the points cloud. It looks good but it will need some work to make it 3D printable. I noticed that the dendrites are vectors without thickness so it would be needed to apply some according of the scale you want for the printed model (for example 1mm thickness for each dendrite for a total neurone length of 150mm), also there are a few dendrites that are apparently detached of the neurone so it will need to either print them as separate objects or to add some parts of "virtual" dendrite to the real ones in order to join them to the body (in any case I'll show you some pictures later when I work with the model for you to choose what to do). Also I think it could not be suitable for 3D printing in injection plastic printers due the extreme complexity of the model (both, details and geometry) so I would suggest you to print in the ones that work with dust, as Selective Laser Sintering printers (SLS) that use resins and laser or as stereolithography printers (SLA) that use light and resins for 3D printing. That way you will have a better resolution and the dentritas will be safe of broken when getting off the support material. In any case the 3D files I'll deliver to you will be suitable to be used in almost any 3D printer so you could choose from any of your local providers. I'll glad to help you with your project, Please contact me for further information. Kind regards, Carlos Paredes Industrial Design
