Custom 3D model analysis software prototype

Prototype for a 3D "analysis engine" that takes two 3D meshes ( from a 3D scanner) as input, and provides the following: - Aligns meshes canonically - Possibly cleans up / crops meshes - Calculates similarity/deviance of meshes in individual points and overall - Creates visualisations of similarity/deviance (for example heatmaps etc.) - Provides metrics of measurements, symmetry, etc. Must be implemented in Matlab (or similar) or Java. Must be invokable from a Java application or Linux command line. The prototype has a limited scope, but must include the following: 1) Re-orientation of 3D object into a canonical orientation, based on autodetection of features (two types of objects). 2) Cropping to ensure canonical representation (for example remove extra objects in background). 3) Compare two surfaces at grid points of 1x1 cm. (output grid of deviance in mm. as well as heatmap projected on one surface). 4) Compare two halves of same surface through a mirror plane (output grid of deviance in mm. as well as heatmap projected on one surface). If the prototype is a success, there is a very big probability of a bigger project afterwards.
