i understand your description Application: photo-to-sculpt (software-tooling process) for sand cast plaque. In place of the traditional sculpted "bas-relief" portrait, photo-to-sculpt uses software to scan and look for contrast levels in a photo-image. Contrast levels are converted to the "Z (up/down)" function of a CNC type engraver. When the photo is of low contrast and out of focus, the results are poor with little detail (garbage in garbage out). The two options are to have a studio artist sculpt a bas-relief clay to be used in the foundry casting process, (expensive), or to have an artist draw a "line-art portrait" with bold thick stroke lines that will cast well.
