Update: Do any of you have a relationship with a civil engineer certified in California that we can partner with?
I am doing maintenance and upgrades to my house and want to make sure that it is structurally sound. I do have elevations and plans from my architect. I need a structural engineer to complete 3 sets of drawings for me, but am starting with the first set:
Adding 3.5 inches of elevation to the outside of my roof, on top of my existing sheathing to provide insulation on my 4:1 vaulted ceiling. What I’d like to add is ~15 R value of insulation:
-1.5 inches of closed-cell polyisocyanurate (polyiso) foam core (R-value 9.8) - weight 8 1lbs per 32 square feet
-1.5 inch of rockwool board (R-value 6) weight 39.2 lbs per 32 square feet
-0.5 inch OSB board - weight 45.44 lbs per 32 square feet
-structural infrastructure of 2” x 4” studs weight (if needed)
I have the rafter dimensions and architectural drawings with windows and etc. The existing roof has 2” x 6” tongue and groove paneling with plywood sheathing and composite roof shingles. I need an engineer to look at the current ceiling rafter/wall design and how to safely add the 3.5” insulation plan above.
