Will 2014 see Federer’s swan song? While his legions of fans still have not seen enough of him, the whispers that demand his retirement have become somewhat of a growing chorus. So, where does the Swiss legend stand? Not only must he fight some fiercely competitive opponents who are getting smarter and smarter, but he also has to battle it out with his most formidable foe yet. No, it’s not Rafael Nadal, it’s father time.
Another grand slam
Federer will turn 33 in this August. Now that he has lost at the Australian Open semifinal against Nadal, we can safely assume that his next chance of a grand slam win would be at Wimbledon. He had not been a dominant force at the Roland Garros even in his heydays. Only the cavalier adventurists would bet for his win at the French Open. But Wimbledon will be different. By evidence of his Australian Open performance, he is focusing more on a serve and volley game. Perhaps, we can attribute it to the influence of his new coach, Stephen Edberg.
