I'm Andres Clari from SteelCode Consulting, and I have ample experience building content management systems with custom data handling, etc. I would indeed use Devise to handle the authentication, and implement all the login, registration, etc. I've created registration forms with Captchas in the past in case you want to have that functionality. As for creating a gem for manual entry, and design patterns, I would need more details on what you want to do there, the Rails app already has with it's design pattern, and the base functionality should be core to the project, but we can go in more details on that. I also have experience in setting up versioned or standalone APIs for Rails applications, and it would be no problem to implement that. I'm familiar with the requirements that other services usually need to work well with APIs. I would love to hear more of your project and help you bring it fruition.
