ActiveSync and Hotmail: search and download an e-mail

I need a simple application to connect to Hotmail to search an e-mail from a list of specified folders and to download it. The search criteria should be the Message-ID, but I could change that if it's a problem. I was researching about this and looks like ActiveSync is the only option, because Hotmail only supports POP3. But I'm open to any suggestion anyway, I need this working ASAP. Python preferred, but I'm open to the quickest solution. The only requirement is that it that the app MUST run on Linux. Languages allowed: C++, C, Ruby, Perl or PHP.
