Create a high definition video platform (user generated content)

This bid is on behalf of an up and coming HD-Video portal, which is currently receiving thousands of hits per day. We have so far been dissapointed by two coders - with deadlines not being met, a sore lack of communication, and lack of technical expertise in the area we are developing in. Coders: Please read through this list very carefully, and ensure that you have the resources and knowledge to understand our very tight deadline. Our full requirements are listed below, please ensure you read through them throughly. *Update: The expert gauruntee has been removed, and the deadline has been set to 10 days - once the working beta has been released and tested, this deadline will be increased by 18 days, making the total project time 28 days* ## Deliverables This bid is on behalf of an up and coming HD-Video portal, which is currently receiving thousands of hits per day. We have so far been dissapointed by two coders - with deadlines not being met, a sore lack of communication, and lack of technical expertise in the area we are developing in. Coders: Please read through this list very carefully, and ensure that you have the resources and knowledge to understand our very tight deadline. It is recommended that this job is completed by a programming team, due to its requirements and nature. 1: The video platform must be fully user-generated content (ala YouTube). We have two dedicated servers which will handle video upload, and conversion. You will need to ensure that these two servers can balance the load of uploaded videos between eachother to ensure the fastest possible upload and display time, and ensure that conversion is done server side. Once conversion is completed, videos are to be hosed onto our dedicated storage server, and the original videos are to be deleted from the upload/convert servers. The DivX codec (latest stable: 6.8.2) must be used as our codec. All popular file formats (avi, mpeg, flv, ogg, gp4, gp4, xvid) along with popular codecs such will need to be converted to .divx using the above mentioned codec. Streaming bitrate should be set to 720kbps. Maximum filesize should be set to 1GB/1024mb. It is IMPERATIVE that these values will be easy to change at any point in the future. Videos will not be served using any flash video player - the DivX webplayer must be used to serve all video! At this moment in time, embedding from external websites will need to be patched against - as with High Definition video, bandwidth is a big issue - and we can't afford to have videos served up on other websites without our own advert revenue to cover them. 2: We are working with Limelight Networks CDN to ensure the fastest possible streaming times to our users. You will need to ensure that all videos are hosed to the LLNW storage server (as stated above), and work with the Limelight tech team to ensure everything has been set up correctly. 3: We want to encourage a strong community feel to our site - we will need: a full friends system a strong "user profile" system a group system a subscriber system allow for "video favorites" etc all account signups to have their un/pw hooked to a VBulletin forum the ability to sign in to your msn/gmail etc and invite your contacts etc users will also need their own basic functions such as seeing that their video is uploaded/queued for conversion, ready for display, and of course, allow the user to delete their uploaded videos. 4: Searching is very important when it comes to a video website - a good "related videos" and general keyword sensitive search system is crucial. We want to try and avoid "generalised searches" as shown in some video platforms, ala Stage6. Keyword sensitivity is very important in terms of many things - ala our search engine rankings. A "channel" system is also extremely important - allowing users to select what category their video falls under (ala Music, Autos, Education etc etc - much like youtube) Our frontpage will also need to have featured videos, top rated, most popular(most hits) etc. 5: Users will need the ability to add private videos - which only their friends can see. It is also important that a user can flag their video as "18+" , which would enforce any visitor to confirm their date of birth by signing up for an account before viewing. Even in this case, the signed up user should still need to click a confirmation box to state that they realise that the material seen within the video may not be appropriate for children, or safe for work etc etc. 6: Social Bookmarking is also a big part of any successful website - Digg, Stumble, Reddit and Delicious widgets will need to be added. 7: We have all of our "base" psd's on hand, which will be supplied to you. You will need to design some pages yourself within this base design, and will need to scan over the psd's for general typos/spelling mistakes etc. Your own creativity should be showcased here - we'd love nothing more than to work with a team who can show us how they think something would look, feel, or act better. 8: A powerful mod/admin system will need to be worked into this - allowing for easy account deletion, warning a user, removing their ability to upload videos for a set period of time/removing their ability to comment on videos etc etc. 9: SECURITY. We can't stress that word enough - we need security, and lots of it. We have a panel of beta testers ready to make sure there's no exploits available - as it should be known, a security exploit could take everyone's hard work down in a heartbeat. Security checks are imperative to this project. 10: Use some common sense. If you feel something is not right, or something could easily be made to perform better - TELL US. We've no problem in awarding coders for their hard work, and improving on our work and ideas is always highly regarded. ---------- We receive a large amount of visitors by the day - usually around 11,000. Our visitors have been sorely dissapointed by both previous coders, who failed to meet their deadlines, and constantly offered empty promises. Part of your job will be to visit our forums once every 48 hours (although more often is encouraged), and keep our visitors up to date with how things are going. As stated, we have a selected panel of beta testers ready to test out everything. The basic video upload/convert system should be ready for a beta test from our users ASAP. This beta test can ignore things such as user login, user comments etc etc - just allow an upload, and a page with the embedded converted video. We have received a Venture Capital for further projects related to this video portal. The successful coding team will be prioritised for future projects - an estimated $14,000 worth over the next 6-8months. Any applying coder will need to ensure that they have a strong resume, and realise the technical monster behind this - there's a huge amount of work to be done to have everything in motion. We recommend you are involved with a team of programmers due to the scale of this project. You will need to be able to prove past work, and must have technical expertise in this area. Due to being dissapointed twice over, we have placed a 20% expert gauruntee on this project - this is to ensure that the coders have read through our requirements throughly, and are not attempting to "wing it" when taking on this project. We need the absolute best - a very intelligent programming team who are ready and willing to give their own input as to what will work best for us, and our visitors.
