I require someone with experience and strong ability to produce a custom alerts solution which is technically sound, cross browser compatible and easy to use. The interface should be professional and simple.
The functions of the application are as follows:
My Alerts
A web based application that enables users to monitor web pages, RSS feeds, Social Media Accounts and other properties for changes or updates to content.
The user should be able to register on the site selecting a membership package which suits their needs ranging from a free basic subscription through to a premium account providing unrestricted access.
Once their account is setup they will go to a page where they start adding the properties they want to be monitored. These properties will include (but not be limited to):
Specific URLs
RSS Feeds
Twitter Accounts
LinkedIn Groups
Forum Threads
As each property is set-up the user will define the preferences associated with that specific property - how frequently will it be monitored, how should they be notified when a change is identified, etc
Once alerts are set-up the user will be able to access their dashboard to view the most recent updates which have been created and to delete, modify or create new alerts.
Payment will be on a subscription basis through paypal.
The alerts system will not only send an email notice, but will provide capabilities for pulling in the information that has changed, for example if monitoring a press release page, the newly added headline and link to full press release will be incorporated within the dashboard.
This differs from similar services which simply recognise a change and notify you that a change to a page has been made. We want our users to know what change has been made, we want all changes notified to be relevant and we want the user to not need to visit the property unless they consider the change to be of relevance and interest. So, in many respects your solution needs to be a clever one.
We do not think Wordpress or Joomla will meet the needs for this project and are looking at something which utilises Ajax technology for speed and efficacy at the front end, together with something like Yii as the core framework and then bespoke elements to handle any scraping, caching and other functions required in order to facilitate the full project requirements to be delivered.
There are additional requirements which will be fleshed out with the chosen provider and awarded as a separate project in due course.
