Hi, this is very possible and a really great idea. With regards to the barcode, you will still need to manually enter all vehicle information and associate it with the particular barcode. This would work wonderfully with tablet devices or even a smart phone. Is it possible for the workers to use a tablet or smartphone or would this add too much risk to your business? If so then it is just a matter of them scanning the vehicle, entering some fields and clicking begin, and then end when they are finished, and possibly entering some additional info (or checking some boxes) to describe the jobs done. Then an invoice would be automatically generated on a server where you can access it from anywhere. We could even automatically email the invoice to your clients. If you do not want the workers to have access to any kind of expensive company assets like smartphones or tablets, then an automated solution would not add as much value. I can do this for you as a web system and app with as rich a functionality as possible and ongoing support. What I would ask for in exchange is that I may host the code on my portfolio as well and have equal ownership to the code itself. The real benefit for you would be that you pay me once but have ongoing support for this as it will form a part of my personal portfolio. For every service, a unique token/JOB-ID number will generate, generally 3-4 digit(alphanumeric) and next time as soon as you enter a token in our system, our system will search car against service token and load all the information related to the car and your service. SPECIAL Feature: As soon as you enter a new car model and year, our system will save it. And when next time as soon as you start typing the car model or name, system will prompt hint as drop down list. Other features: 1. You only need to enter car information for one time only. 2. A car can have multiple unique tokens. 3. System will print token to paste on car as sticker during service time. 4. System is capable of printing all details in invoice. 5. System is capable of export(to mail)/import BACKUP, a backup helps you never to loose data of your customers, in case of site attack, migration of software to other computer. 6. You can insert car photo in our system( If you want, needs 1 day extra to complete, same price) Work Load : For new cars, you need to enter complete data, for new service, you can search in database by old tokens, owner name, car name At time of billing, you need to search only by token Token system will start from 1 digit and goes to n digits depending on your business. Last year I developed an aplication for a local tool renter (not on Freelancer). There they can scan the asked tool barcode, the application record the date and time, then when the client come back with the tool, with a new scan can be recorded the return date and time. The application determins the rental time and has a file which contains the prices and acording to this dates, it calculates the cost. Startin from this functional application, I think I could modify it to match your needs.
