Amazon EC2/S3 as an authenticated webDAV store (059)

We are creating an Amazon AMI including various items of system software, many standard Unix component but also the server S3DAV which makes an S3 account look like a webdav store. We wish to segment a single S3 account of our own into several independent filestores, where we wish to authenticate users, so each user may have a personal filestore using credentials that we assign. S3DAV provides a URL hierarchy which maps into buckets and keyed objects. What we wish to accomplish in this project is to configure Apache web server as a proxy forwarding WebDAV and FTP requests to an instance of S3DAV. All it has to do is deny requests that fail authentication based on the URL hierarchy. In the first instance we wish to associate user names with the top level of the URL path, e.g. with mycompany/myprojects/mydocuments 'mycompany' will be an authentication domain where there are various users given read/write access at various levels below. We will provide access to an instance of Amazon for testing.
