Hello,
I have a PHP website that I would like to get functioning again.
The site was working previously (on a dev server in India). But when the original developer transferred the code to me it appeared that the code was not complete and had other similar problems. I'm no PHP expert but I have been able to determine that everything the site would need to function is there in the code. However I've also noticed 3 things:
1) It's riddled with syntax errors
2) It's missing headers/footers
3) It's got almost no coding style
My dream for this project is to get a confident/capable PHP person who can show examples of their work and assume control of the PHP aspects of this project. There may be more development for the project in the future if we can get over the hurdle of making the site function in my own environment. Familiarity and comfort with the Unix command line environment would be a definite bonus.
It uses PHP with Cassandra DB: one of the non-relational (NoSQL) databases offered by the Apache Foundation. The site also uses MySQL for select portions. It uses Smarty PHP templates.
Your mission would be to get the site to function again using the latest version of Cassandra DB. It's currently at version 1.0.7 (as of this writing, new versions come out fairly quickly).
Other than getting the site to work I would like you to document how to stop and start all the components of the web site and how to transfer the site to another server.
The plan would be to email you an archive of the code that I have and have you get it running in a virtual machine that is similar to what I plan to use. Once you have the site running, you'll need to provide me with everything I need to get it running in Amazon Web Services.

Tim

Very interested in this project primarily because of your use of AWS and Cassandra/Mongo.
I have very strong PHP skills and would be able to refactor and document the entire structure for you, as well as debug the project and perform latency optimization.
Please check your messages for further details.
Lot of migration project handled in life, from small application to large telco application. Though it is not possible to say before porting into fresh environment, how much effort will require, but I am confident to close assignment efficiently an within short period of time. Thanks.
Experienced web developer with a focus in software design. Although I am primarily a Java developer, I worked on a project recently that involved refactoring a PHP web application since all the the HTML and SQL statements were in the same layer. My experience with NoSQL databases is in MongoDB and Neo4j, but I think I should do fine with Cassandra. See message for more details.
