If it's allowed, I would use C++, which is better for string management and because of its data structure. If not, then I would use Java. I would make an word histograms for each movie counting how many occurrences for each word exist. Then I would compare each movie vs the rest to estimate the union set of repeated words between them, and then use the formula you provided to estimate the distance. I would take care also to not compute extra distances because dist(AB) = dist(BA) so this could speed up my program. If you have any question about my proposal, feel free to ask.
