Design a Magazine

We need to design a new travel magazine. Magazine will be a maximum of 56 pages, A4 trimmed size. Design should be modern and clean. The design should flow with consistent design and a good palette (but restrained number) of fonts. A mixture of shorter articles with longer multiple page feature articles. There should also be short “what’s news” style pages. Basically all the normal elements you would expect to see in any ‘high end’ travel publication you picked up from a news stand, newsagency. Masthead should be “Travel”. Total word count for the 54 pages should be approximately 5,000 words. This magazine will become a template and the content (text and images) will change regularly using the exact same layout/design. As such we need to follow a number of rules when designing the magazine… 1) If a heading or sub heading is reversed or overprinting in an image it will need to be key-lined or drop shadow. This is because the user will not always have the option to change the colour to accommodate the tone of the image below. 2) If body copy or text is reversed (or attempting to overprint) in an image it will need to have a background panel of a black tint to allow the text to reverse out in all cases. This is because the user will not always have the option to change from reverse type to overprint type to accommodate the tone of the image below, picture might be light allowing an overprint but the next use the picture could be dark and it needs to reverse type. 3) There will be no adverts in the magazine Once you have completed the 54 page book we want you to supply a cut-down version using various pages from the 56 page book to create the following. Obviously this means the book should still flow nicely, it is not a matter of just deleting any pages - it needs to still look good and coherent. 32 page book 40 page book 48 page book Just source content and images from the internet and any supply you may have. All content for this ‘mock-up’ will be deleted and replaced so copyright is not an issue.
