Create a Database and Interface for Daily Excel Files

This is a placeholder bid. I would require to see sample files (for couple of dates) and would gauge the exact complexity and might refine my bid (lower/higher) This is my current understand - every day you get excel file which contains information in rows/columns. each row is a data related to an entity (tree name). So you need the db which would store entity (for e.g., aspen), data (cash), value (excel value of the intersection cell), date (based on excel dated). Once you have this information - you can take any metrics you want like finding sum/avg/max/min/grouping/filter etc., The above is just my draft understanding. Hello, This could be done adding a new tab in Excel's Ribbon, with a button to start the daily ftp operation and also drop-down lists and buttons to get the desired results (charts and/or data summaries). I need to know the Excel version you are using, as both the code and the results format may be significantly different between different Excel versions. In any case, the final file will keep all previous data in a well-organized database, the summary tables (pivots) and the results page (charts, summaries). For your purpose, I can create a structure that will allow you to import all the historical as well as daily data to database on click of a button. Hello, I hope all is well. I will admit that I'm a little biased in my preference of Excel vs. Access (or DBs) as I have found that a vast majority of users feel more comfortable working in and updating Excel. My approach would probably be different than most other quotes you will receive as I would envision have a single Excel document that would have a well laid out user interface that would allow a user to push a button and select a daily file they would like to import. After pressing the "IMPORT" button the data would be pulled into the document and put in a different layout that would enable utilizing pivot tables and pivot charts to be able to slice and analyze the data in a simple manner for the user. Depending on the version of Excel (i.e. 2010 and beyond) there are tools called "Slicers" that add a very neat and easy user interface to change the data displayed in a table or chart by pressing buttons. I think this solution will provide the most simple design, best user interface and be the least expensive long-term option. Hi, My name is Dan. I am an expert in excel and all advanced functionalities. I guess I have understood your requirement precisely. The best thing to do will be to import the file that you received into an excel database table, automatically and do a pivot table and chart with slicers. This pivot can be refresh anytime you import a new dataset into the database. This will give you the flexibility to view statistics for each tree name. And the button that you are referring to could be the slicer buttons which when click can give you a visual as well as stats representation of the desired item.
