Do some Excel Work

I have an Excel sheet with part numbers, the components of the part drive the part number so each selection (column in a row) drills down the available selections for the next component.
I need to be able to filter the drop-downs based on the previous answers so that part numbers cannot be created from components that are not compatible. I have tried to use the FILTER function, but cannot figure out the finite details to make it run correctly.
There will probably need to be some cleanup of my workbook structure involved to make it run efficiently.
I would also like to build a form for future data entry to protect the actual sheet of data from being accessed and edited.
Using Google Sheets for this project, but can use Excel if it works better
