My name is Joe Hahs, and I incorporated Evergreen Construction in 2003 in St. Paul Minnesota. Superior craftsmanship, hard work, attention to detail, and customer satisfaction are the founding principles of Evergreen Construction. MY WORK HISTORY STORY My first job at age 10 was lawn mowing for family and neighbors. Before that, I remember finding golf balls in the woods adjacent from Hyland Greens Golf Course and reselling the golf balls through a fence on 102nd Street in Bloomington. Later in my adolescent years, I was hired by the same golf course where I used to find golf balls, working as a starter and cashier. My next job was a busboy at Chili’s Bar and Grill in Bloomington during high school and college. Being a busboy, I learned all about reliability, teamwork, taking direction, and making sure customers have a pleasurable dining experience. I graduated from Cretin-Derham Hall High School in 1995. During that summer, I worked as an instructor at Minnesota Developmental Basketball (MDB), working with the youth to develop their lives and basketball skills. I continued to work at MDB most summers during college, as well as my other jobs. In the fall of 1995, I began college at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul. At college I started working for a major financial institution (Ameriprise Financial) as a customer service representative in Minneapolis. After I graduated from college in 2000 with a degree in Marketing Management, I got a promotion to Marketing Project Manager at the same financial institution. I supported regional VPs and their efforts to sell large market 401 k plans. During this job, I began working nights at AT&T Broadband (Now Comcast). Concurrently, I worked these jobs for about a year. During this time, I found the construction industry and the opportunity to work outside to deliver a tangible product and service. In 2002, I met some people in the roofing and general contracting business when they purchased some Comcast services from me. They recruited me into the roofing industry. Looking back, I remember the work I did with remodeling jobs throughout my life, especially during high school and college. A lot of do-it-yourself work for friends and family took up my time, yet I was unaware a career in the roofing replacement industry was in the making. Although, I did know I enjoyed working outside and the construction process…  After several months of back and forth and much trepidation, I quit both jobs, got incorporated, and became a roofer. At first I was a subcontractor for a roofer in town, but I quickly saw the need for a more compassionate approach to roofing. I got my Minnesota Roofing and General Contracting license in 2005. In 2006, we completed more than 500 roofing and siding projects. During the next four years, we experienced double digit growth every year. That was a lot! I have learned that a company’s success should be measured by happy employees and homeowners, and not so much centered by volume alone. In 2009, we ventured into the Iowa and Chicago markets. We did a DBA of Select Evergreen Construction. We installed several hundred new roofs, sidings, and window replacements. However, missing my family in 2013, I decided to continue operations only in Minnesota. In 2016, we dropped the Select and went back to our corporate name of Evergreen Construction Company Inc. WHERE WE ARE TODAY Evergreen Construction in 2016 is ready to Dream, Build and Protect your construction project. Success is earning our homeowners’ trust and satisfaction. I hope to make homeowners so thrilled with Evergreen’s services they will refer us to their friends, family, and neighbors.
