We are looking for a series of well designed slides for the portfolio page of our website. NO CODING NEEDED. Just well designed slides that confirm to the current website architecture. See attached layouts for exact size specifications. But in short. We host our site on Photoshelter.com and use the "promonade" template. You will see how their interface works for the "portfolio" tab in the templates navigation. This is the area you are charged with helping us design.

The final deliverable is a series of photoshop layered files that are 1440 pixels high x 2574 pixels wide. With a strategically designed center square when the image is cropped to 1440x1440 on the grid page. We will be charged with adding copy and final images to each slide/story - you are all about designing each slide to look good with FPO copy and images.

Each "story template" will consist of a square shaped landing graphic/typography that will be seen when the slide is on the on the "grid" page. where 9+ stories will be displayed at any given time. The stories are loosely joined into 5 major categories.

We will change the order and prominence of these stories on a fairly regular basis - so it is important to have variety in look - and flexibility to change imagery.

From the "grid" page a user clicks on the graphic square - which will take them to the full screen "landing page" Where the image is no longer center cropped to a square - and we can see the full image - full screen. Designs should utilize the fact that the image really has two states. One as a center weighted cropped image... and then on the landing page where you gain additional real estate... and can reveal more detail. (see the storyboard for examples of copy we have placed that will "reveal" on the landing page.

The key is to design a system of "story templates" that will allow us to keep our messaging fresh and new - without reinventing the wheel each and every week.

If you spend a little time looking at the promenade template on photoshelter and checking out the attached docs and our website it should become pretty clear what we're looking for.

PLEASE Review the Size and Layout page.jpg to have your designs seriously considered... It is CRITICAL - that you follow the size constraints on that page... Understanding this constraint is paramount to a successful entry. Further. I want to make it clear that you DO NOT need to design the grid page of our portfolio... That is already a built-in function of our current website implementation... Your task is to create the design and creative layouts for "story templates" which are in essence the landing page off the grid page. In an effort to help guide a bit more. While the design elements are not 100% spot on. The closest example of what will win the contest is Entry #11 ... Creating 6+ creative and flexible layout configurations along these lines will win the day.

Your "templates" should have no navigation or links... just a compelling layout with flexibility for text and graphics that when cropped to a square will present nicely on the "grid" page... Back to entry #11 - See how the orange "about us" will crop nicely when the sides are clipped? I'd love to see options like this - where there are 3 or 4 images on the left panel and a strong text panel on the right... or maybe one large image on the left and center with different colored overlaying text that when cropped only shows a portion of the text - changing it's meaning slightly... Or a template with 4 images stacked on the left and right coupled with a strong center graphic... once you get the concept - and design to the space - the layout options are endless. Each "story" will reside inside of a grid - 9-12 squares. I've uploaded a few examples of some styles that I like. From that grid page - a user would click on an individual square - that will take them to a landing page - which has further support pages associated with it. Please refer to the attachments posted. They offer a detailed scope.

One thing to take special note of is how the template pulls a center weight square preview of of the "story cover" - but then displays image at full size regardless of orientation on the landing page... which means for vertically oriented stories - you get a chunk of negative white space on either side... while horizontally oriented images fill a typical browser window. This has both positive and negative implications... General thought would be that for text heavy stories - a square text slide - center weighted could benefit from the negative white space on the sides... either by matching the white - or playing off of it... But image slides work better horizontally - so long as a center weighted crop looks appropriate.
