<Technology Description>
This technology is used to switch from automatic driving mode to manual driving mode depending on an amount of driving operation by a driver during the automatic driving mode. The amount of driving operation includes, for example, a steering angle or a steering torque of a steering wheel, or an accelerator pedal depression amount or an accelerator pedal depression force.
One of the problems in such scenes is that the vehicle might be subject to the switching to manual operation even if the driver is not ready for the manual driving, as a result of the driver's unintended manual driving operation input during the automatic driving.
To solve this problem, this technology makes switching to manual driving mode more permissible depending on a length of time that has elapsed since the driver was ready for manual driving. A state in which the driver is ready for manual driving includes, for example, a state in which the driver is in contact with the steering wheel of the vehicle or a state in which the driver has finished operating the in-vehicle instrument such as an audio system.
