Resumen del concurso

We need to re-design a label for our Chubby Cherry topping.
We are currently printing the label in house but I would like to have it printed by a printing company.
I would like the label 'jazzed up' a bit. Our in house crew designed our current label but the lack the skills to do a truly first class job.
The current label in printed on 4x2 inch stock gloss. It uses a graphic that I down loaded and purchased the rights to use. You can either use the current graphic (Happy Cherry) or create a new one.
I have attached a copy of the current label so you can see what you're re-designing.
Specifications of the new label:
* It needs to have a 'whimsical' feel, possibly cartoon-ish, definitely 'happy'.
* It can have a custom die-cut, but that isn't a must. Please include a die-line labeled as such.
* The work must be submitted to me as an Illustrator file with layers intact and text NOT converted to outlines.
* It needs to be communicated clearly on the label that it is more than just an ice cream topping - although that is its primary use. It is also used as a topping, mix-in and filling.
* There needs to be a space for a UPC bar code and a space for a nutritional facts statement.
* The maximum label height is 2.5 inches and the maximum label width is 6 inches.
* The label fits on a round jar. A picture of which can be found here: http://www.agcc.com/products/12oz-eco.html
* Could possibly include the phrase, "Excellent source of Vitamin C", but that is not a requirement.
* Must include an ingredients statement:
Ingredients: Cherries, cherry juice, pure cane sugar, modified food starch, malic acid, ascorbic acid, almond extract, vanilla, red food coloring, cinnamon.
* Must include a manufacturers statement:

Our brands include Uncle Denny's ice cream toppings, Lawford's cream syrups, and Pioneer Valley jams, syrups, and caramels. You can see online some of our other labels. The Uncle Denny's Chubby Cherry uses a contrasting label and jar from the other Uncle Denny's products to differentiate itself.

“I enjoyed working with Rogeliobello. He did an excellent job re-designing a label for us. He was able to customize the label and meet my expectations. I would definitely consider him for future work.”

Instead of having one big label, would you be open to the idea of two labels? (One label on the front with your logo and such, and another label for the back with technical info, etc.)

I would be open to the idea. It is what we're doing now. Part of the reason for the new label is to stop doing that. Too much labor. So while I may be open to the idea, it is a pretty small opening.

    Sorry, another note:
We will be applying the labels by hand. Thus a full wrap around label will be very difficult for us to apply. It is difficult to get the two ends to meet up exactly - which you have to do with a full wrap around label - there is not the slightest room for error.

Does the label have to go around the jar or can it go over the top and down the sides. ?? Cheers

The primary label needs to go on the front of the jar. A secondary label can go across the top (lid) and down the sides. But I'm not a fan of the idea because of the extra labor involved. But I will leave the option open because maybe I'll be surprised with what someone comes up with. (But I seriously doubt it.) So unless you are amazingly skilled and extremely confident I wouldn't waste the time working on it.

There is no requirement that label be symmetrical, or that it be laid out in a circular pattern, or that the Happy Cherry character be in between the brand and product name.

Hello. Are you happy with the cherry character, or would you rather have a new one? The label redesign is no problem, I just need to figure out how much time I should spend on the figure itself. Thank you.

I'm happy with the Happy Cherry character, but not wedded to it. I left it open for change because if someone who is an excellent cartoonist or illustrator thought they could do better I'd like to see it.

More than you ever wanted to know about Nutrition Facts statements:
    http://www.fda.gov/Food/GuidanceRegulation/GuidanceDocumentsRegulatoryInformation/LabelingNutrition/ucm064904.htm
Basically the take-away here is that the nutrition panel can be as small as possible so long as the smallest font is no smaller than 6 point.

    Another note:
You can specify metallic colors, including gold. Both spot and process colors are possible. You can also specify a matte or gloss laminate.

Just a note: I included a copy of the original just so everyone could see what we WERE using. I'm looking for something different and original, not just a take-off. Don't just start with the old and try to make it look good - be creative and show off your talent! Good luck guys! And thank you for your efforts and submissions.
