Daron Babin got his start in television, working as a director for NBC. While his original interests were in broadcasting, he developed an interest in search marketing around 1997 when he and a friend built a website. The friend knew a lot about servers and programming, but not much about marketing—that was Daron’s job. Daron used search engines to find his way around the web, and realized early on that there had to be a way he could get his website to the top of search engine results. He lurked in forums and absorbed all the information he could. He learned with the first SEO experts, including Dogboy and Bob Massa.
Daron has come a long way since then. He has lectured at conferences around the world, and has been training now industry-leading companies in search engine optimization and marketing since 1997, the beginning of the search engine industry.
Today, Daron is one of the search marketing community’s more prominent members. He remains a broadcaster at heart, however. A few years ago, along with his wife Brandy, he started [login to view URL]—a popular podcast series about search marketing trends, techniques, and other issues. The radio station is now owned by Daron’s parent company, NewGen Broadcasting, which concentrates on delivering business-to-business programming to companies all over the world. He’s also the president of Absolute Marketing International, which offers tailored search engine optimization and marketing services to companies.
Daron believes that education is a huge part of being a top search marketer. What worked six months ago or even last week might not work today, and anyone who wants to stay relevant in the search engine optimization business has to keep learning constantly. He’s a practical guy when it comes to client websites, and will look as much as what the end user’s intent is as he will at the optimization of the site. Daron believes that SEO is only half of an ecommerce site’s battle; the other half is usability.
Daron is best known today for his work on [login to view URL]. Topics include search engine marketing issues and trends, debate-style forums, European SEO issues, writing quality content, and more. It’s also the official radio station for AdTech, PubCom, Search Engine Strategies, and EcomXpo.
