Move back-end database of old Access 2002 developed app to SQL Server. Ensure Access 2002 front end still functions against new SQL back end.
We have a mission-critical operations/CRM/inventory/invoicing/scheduling/more tool that has been developed in ACCESS 2002 and has seen continuous development (by me, largely after hours) over the past 8 years and has many 10's of kloc, external ASP.net dependencies for everything from inventory batching tools to POS equipment control to web syncinc tools & auto-twitter.
It now has grown too large to comfortably keep the data in access (only 300mb of data, but slow and prone to corruption.)
We need to migrate it to an existing SQL Server 2008 installation we have and ensure the old front-end still works.
*I have tries this using the MS database upsizing tool - I have been able to import all but one table, but have not had time to go beyond this... and have no experience with how Access likes linked tables to SQLServer datasources instead of usual JET ones.
I need the developer to have experience with this type of job and recommend process, time needed to test and means to work on 'dummy' DBs then re-apply entire migration in a one-shot migration of Live data. We work 7 days a week so final migration will have to be after hours GMT+8.
It is possible to work remotely on our server by Remote Desktop if necessary. Also possible to set up a test machine for client testing by RDP.
This *could be* a 2 hour job, or could be a 200 hour job - since I am not sure of whether the imported/upsized tables are simply interchangeable, or if queries, code etc qill have to be re-written.
NOTE that at this point I do not care about efficiency - just movement of data to another back end. I know all our queries are running client side, but improvements to the front end are a later phase/project.
