User experience (UX) and visual design of our survey web application - Initial part of a bigger project -

WHAT DO WE NEED We would like to do a complete overhaul of the user experience and visual design of our survey web application at [login to view URL] to improve its usability and general appearance. This is planned to be a long term project but, for this stage, we will be starting with just the general layout and navigation for the application, and a concrete page to see how it will work out. We are hoping to find a good UX/Visual designer that can help us realize our vision for this phase and can continue working with us for the whole length of the project. WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING The application has a main workflow the users need to go through in order to achieve their goal. It can be described as: 1. Build the survey 2. Style it 3. Configure it 4. Share it 5. Analyze the results We need you to design a global layout and navigation that streamlines this workflow, making it easy to grasp for the average user; while facilitating to move between the steps, sequentially or not. Of course, this layout should also have ways to access less frequent areas of the application like contacts, account info, billing history, and so on. The layout should also have an area to show messages and notifications to users. These messages are dismissible, so the layout should work with or without this area. You will also need to create a page to configure the survey, which corresponds with the 3rd step of the main workflow. This page will have a large number of options, so the main goal here will be to organize and present them in a way that is easy to understand by the user. Also this page will allow to see how the proposed global layout will work in a concrete page, or set of pages. WHAT DO WE LIKE The identity of the application is based on the use of the Montserrat font and the blue color of the logo. We would like to keep this identity, but you are free to explore with other colors; or more legible fonts that go well with Montserrat for labels, controls, etc. In our current application we are making an extensive use of modal dialogs to avoid forcing the user to leave the page they are on, just to edit a property or a section of the page. This approach is more obvious when building a survey. Although we don’t dislike the approach, feel free to explore other options to achieve the same results (as with in place editing); the real goal is to provide an immersive experience for the user. For maintainability reasons, we prefer to use the styles and controls provided by default with Bootstrap 3 for most of our application. It will be very appreciated if your proposal uses mostly these styles and controls, although customized with your personal style/theme. This will be very helpful in our selection process. After the bid is accepted, and through the length of the project, we will be exploring ideas and refining the proposal(s). At the end we will need: 1. The final design (general layout of the application and the requested page) as an image in some common formats (PNG, PSD, AI) 2. The proposed navigation map (or graph) 3. The descriptions of the user interactions and expected application behavior, if they are not obvious, both for the general layout and the requested page. Any text format or presentation tool will be fine for this. 4. Optionally, the realization of the design as web page(s); that is, a combination of HTML + CSS + JS. This deliverable is not required but it is very valuable to us; so if you will not be including it, please let us know on your bid, and adjust the amount accordingly. As mentioned before, try to use as much as possible the controls and styles provided by default in Bootstrap 3; or at least create or modify a custom theme for Bootstrap
