We have quite a unique project that we are expecting to start next week on our Data Collection projects. let us know as soon as possible that you are interested in the project and the volume you would be interested in taking on.
Indonesian - English
Malaysian - English
Firstly to give you some background:
Unlike having large volumes of text referring to a single subject matter, our client has spidered the web and randomly pulled sentences from hundreds and thousands of web sites. So, the content could be a sentence from a newspaper, twitter feed, blog, technical document, hotel page, user manual, forums, Terms & Conditions … Let’s just say, if it is on the web our client may have pulled it. They have then provided us with all these random sentences in Excel and want us to translate them.
The whole task is part of a huge R&D (Research & Development) project. The purpose is to feed analytical data into a machine to train it how a human linguist would translate
these random sentences.
Understanding the task:
As mentioned these are random sentences pulled from the internet so no two sentences will follow in context. Every sentence is a new sentence and is independent from other sentences. Some sentences can be searched on the Internet so you can see context if needed, but you must translate the sentence as you understand it, using the client’s style guide as reference and stay true to the source i.e. not use any pre-translations found on the internet or any type of machine translation engine. There will not be any glossaries but you are free to use any online or offline dictionaries that you have. Please do not confuse this task as random “software” strings. They will be full sentences. There will be times when some sentences are rude, offensive or just don’t make sense (remember these have been randomly pulled and not reviewed), and in such cases, the client has specific guidelines for how to deal with them.
There are some quality guidelines we must adhere to (will be provided with the project hand-off) in order for the translations to best assist in the R&D. As a translator, a main responsibility will be for you to study and follow these guidelines. As with any translation project, we cannot accept spelling, grammatical errors etc.
Volume: around 193.000 words for each language pair
