We have been into IoT solutions development for the past two years, doing rapid product prototyping, t integrating the microcontrollers to web (to known IoT platforms like AWS IoT & IBM Bluemix and to custom platforms) and mobile applications.
We have worked on many projects using Arduino, connecting different sensors like Temperature (LM35, DS18S20), Temperature and Humidity (DHT22), Barometric Pressure sensor (BMP085), Ultrasonic, IR, Hall Effect, Reed Switch, Ambient light, Accelerometer (MPU-6050) and sending the data to cloud.

1. Raspberry pi integration to AWS IoT with Node.JS AWS library - Data from temperature sensors based on One Wire protocol (DS18B20) is sent to AWS IoT module and updated in DynamoDB. Data gets published to MQTT Broker at AWS IoT where we created rule to save the data (message) received by MQTT Subscriber to Dynamo DB.
2. Gaswell Monitor - To create a web based UI for displaying data captured from gas wells and control the gas valves and other actuators from it. Used Arduino, php, .NET, MySQL, AJAX
3. Smart Kiosk - Sensor unit which sends details of temperature, humidity, proximity of visitor to kiosk and ambient light, sending these details over to the admin's console and triggering a set of actions based on the thresholds set for these parameters. Used Arduino pro-mini, DHT22, Reed switch, Ultrasound range detector, Ambient Brightness Sensor. Python
