A system is needed to track the movement of an WIFI asset (wireless laptop, PDA etc) as it moves up and down the aisles in a wharehouse. By taking location readings every few seconds and sending X:Y coordinates of where each asset is to a central server. This data will then contain data regarding the location of the asset, form which a path the asset took and it's current position can be determined.

This asset will be a standard WIFI PCMCIA card or similar WIFI deivice transmitting to a WIFI AP. These WIFI? tags transmit their ID to a number? of standard WIFI 80211/b/g antennas around the wharehouse, and through a process of triangulation or tri-lateration algorithms the software (to be written)? determine the location of the tagged asset. The antennas (WIFI Access Points)? are connected via coaxial cable to the in-store? WAN.? On the WAN a server resides that maps these X:Y coordinates, these locations indicate the location of the asset in the wharehouse.? ? This information is updated live.?
This? RTLS (Real Time Locating System)? solution should be able to provide accurate positions of 1000's of objects in real time to applications that require the information to the users or systems utilizing the coordinate information. The reason we are wanting to write our own sofwtare is due to the cost involved of using these developed systems on a large scale. (6000 assets traking)Advanced Features for this Location-Based Application will be:

Part of the problem with using this WIFI method of determining position is the radio signal transmitted form the? WIFI tag to the AP is scatered by material in the wharehouse. (metal? shelving etc.)? Normally a benchmark analsysis is done of the wharehouse (some guy walking in the wharehouse taking reading to see what the X:Y coordinate errors are.
