With experience building enterprise level software, I have quite a bit of experience running into similar issues, and I know how to solve them. Your async issue could be solved quite simply with a call to refresh the page on any of the events you mentioned, although this would not be the correct way to solve this problem. A better solution is to figure out why your event hooks are not working the way they are supposed to and then implement them correctly (that's what I would do!). Sorting functionality is straightforward as well, usually passing your 'sortBy' parameter in as a variable and running that on a switch statement. I have incorporated this functionality professionally multiple times. As for explanations, I can go as low level as you need - explaining some of the functionality that your computer is actually doing under the hood (manipulating your hardware's registers, breaking a string down into characters, storing that information at specific memory addresses, etc.) or I can keep it high level if you are simply trying to understand all the resulting function calls of your "create new" function call.
