Autonomous Unmanned Ground Vehicle

I'm completely new to this, so bear with me please. I'm looking to build a completely autonomous rover that I can deploy in the desert region of Southern CA, similar to the Mars Rover from NASA, and have it roam a specified area to look for gold using a metal detector.  I have identified several key components that I'd like to use and have listed them below.  I believe this is going to be fairly complicated project.  If you think you can handle, then let me know.  I think I can handle the hardware build with your guidance. Grid out boundaries with geofencing and navigation using Ardu Mission Planner described above.
