Data collection from US Census website

1) Go to [login to view URL] 2) Select each state (and the District of Columbia) in turn and collect data. For each state: 3) Select the state from the drop-down box and click “GO”. 4) Click the link near the top of the next page that says “More [state name] data sets”. 5) On the next page, click “Places in [state name] listed alphabetically”. (That is under the “People QuickLinks” section, “Population Estimates” category.) 6) On the next page, click the “Modify Table” button. Uncheck all the boxes in the table headings (to make them disappear) except for the town name and the rightmost (newest) population estimate. This should leave the table with only those two columns. 7) Click the “Download” button. In the popup window, uncheck the “Include descriptive data element names” checkbox and then click OK. When the file is complete, click the “Download” button in the next popup window to save the data in CSV format to your hard drive. (Actually, the downloaded file will be a zip file. Unzip and open the folder. The file I want is the biggest one and will be called something like “[login to view URL]”.) 8) After doing this for each state and the District of Columbia, you should have 51 CSV files. For each of these files, remove the file’s first line and concatenate it into one large file with all the other data from the other files. In other words, make one big file out of all the others but make sure to remove the first line of each file first. 9) Provide me all 52 files.
