Develop a Chrome Extension that records your browser's tab or your entire screen and audio from your microphone and allows the user to download the video as a .webm file. This extension would be like a stripped down version of the Screencastify Lite extension.
Requirements
A Chrome extension that will be distributed using Google’s Chrome Web Store. https://developer.chrome.com/extensions/getstarted
The extension will allow the user to choose to record their whole screen or their current browser tab plus audio from their microphone.
The recorded audio and video will be able to be saved (downloaded) to their computer
This extension will be similar to Screencastify: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/screencastify-screen-vide/mmeijimgabbpbgpdklnllpncmdofkcpn?hl=en but it does NOT need the following features:
- edit or annotate videos
- sync with G-Suite
- watermark on video
- record webcam
- integrate with Google Drive or YouTube
5. The extension must not require any other software to be installed such as Java or Flash.
6. The extension should gracefully handle running out of disk space.
7. The extension should warn the user if their computer is not running fast enough to capture the audio and video (dropped audio frame warning)
8. The position of the user’s mouse pointer should also be recorded. Mouse clicks should be indicated similar to how the screencastify extension does by displaying a circle.
9. When the user first clicks on the extension’s icon, it should display a window allowing the user to adjust their mic recording level and show an audio meter so that the user can tell if the recording level is set too high.
10. This window should also allow the user to choose to record their whole screen or just the active tab. (I assume you would use the APIs at https://developer.chrome.com/extensions/desktopCapture or https://developer.chrome.com/extensions/tabCapture)
11. If the user clicks the extensions icon while recording their screen it should pause the recording and display a window allow the user to resume recording or to save their recording.
12. The video should be saved as webm/vp8 files with ogg vorbis audio
13. The extension should not use any third party libraries that would require licensing.
14. All code should use descriptive English variable and method names.
15. You will deliver all code necessary for me to publish the extension to the Chrome Web Store.
