In my years as a manager of web sites that drive traffic and increase sales, I have learned that presentation to and treatment of the customer, whether internal or external, is paramount. In fact, customer service directly relates to the success of the web site project, especially when the customers are actually internal stakeholders, and necessarily when the customers are purchasing entities.
In my professional experience, my customers included the teams that I project managed as well as long-term customers of the sites I strove to improve. In all cases, because my tight management of scheduling, attention to resource allocation, and budgeting management, I was able to increase traffic, improve timelines, and achieve the goals of the project. Additionally, as a strongly consultative project manager, I was able to negotiate difficult decisions with managers and staff at all levels through openly communicating project needs and learning stakeholder requirements, and then assimilating all team constraints and needs into an ongoing project plan that continued to meet institutional goals.
