Article On Open Wireless Networks

I would like an article of about 1000 words on the dangers of leaving your wireless network open. Why you shouldnt do it ? How easy is it to access your data .. from the outside? How easy is it to protect your system .. [I realise each system is differant .. and im only looking for an overview?] This is an article to go into a local community magazine .. and is not meant to be the technical answer to everyones problem ... only an overview to the dangers of allowing your network to be open ?
