checking and savings program homework assignment

This is a homework project for a c++(vers.6)college class. We have spent a long time on this project and still can not get it to work correctly and really need this ASAP. The assignment is to create a C++ program that will keep up with a family's checking and savings account (Mother, Father, son). The functions for all three family member can look the same. The program must have at least 4 functions in all (thats including the main function)and each function must use a call by reference(I have no idea what that means). The program should, when entered into the keyboard a check number, it should read into text file(in notepad) and find the check and display the about and description of the check. The program should have the option for the user to find out his total checking account balance and savings account balance.(again these should be read from a text file). Here is an example of what the program should read from in the text file. ([login to view URL]) 1 walmart $35.24 2 kmart $16.32 3 pizza hut $20.16 Here is an example of what the program should read from in the text file.([login to view URL]) 11-5-02 +20.00 11-6-02 - 5.00 The user should be able to add as many checks to the textfile or withdraws from the savings textfile and still be accurate. Again we need this ASAP. This is not a window program it should open in a doss page when executed.
