I recently finished an automation project which does the following 1. There is an independent cloud management platform available which allows you to easily manage not only AWS but also Rackspace and others. 2. The management platform described in (1) offers a free Web based API using which automation is possible. So What i did was a. Using web based API, i created a code that allows you to create X number of servers (from a preconfigured base image), start, delete and terminate them. b. I created some scripts that could be associated with each of the servers THROUGH CODE, which enables downloading of a folder/files from S3. c. Once the job is done, the result files are pushed back to S3 and servers are automatically shut down. d. result files are brought back to local machine. ALL OF THIS WAS DONE USING CODE ONLY. NO MANUAL INTERACTION which means COMPLETE AUTOMATION.
