Okay so here's the situation: Since November 2012 I've been basically un-hirable in Houston ,TX in my profession as a funeral director/embalmer due to a fantastic *scandal* that was brought on by no fault of my own. I can't buy a job in this city now, despite graduating at the top of my class with a 4.0 and having a highly polished resume with extensive work experience. Fast forward 3 long, painful years... I'm still here... I'm still unemployed... And at the urging of my family, friends, neighbors, and a few paying clients, have decided to take my "hobby" of making gourmet fudge to the web. I've been playing with fudge since I was in the 8th grade... I'm now 43. I make KILLER fudge and can go head-to-head with ANYONE, ANYWHERE. Not cocky, just super confident in my craft. I understand the concept of branding, and creating a logo is very important. I'm a little bit of a rebel at heart, and have named my fudge business Oh Fudge Me! It's a play on words... Oh F*@k Me! is a sentiment of *exactly* how I feel about my professional career at the moment. I'm also originally from Maine, and the "ME" is a nod to my home state. In thinking about a logo, I had a couple of ideas actually... My initial thought was to capitalize on the whole RETRO feel of fudge... It's a dying art, not a lot of people make it anymore, not a lot of people have the time to make it anymore, most people don't even know how... It's kind of an old-timie thing, and usually only available for sale at tourist-type destinations... I love the old ads from the 50's and 60's... And the whole nostalgia feel of homemade fudge would work nicely with a retro theme. BUT THEN... With a name like Oh Fudge Me! I was considering more of a badass, in your face logo to go along with the name and exactly WHY I chose it. I'm a big fan of Joan Jett and all the 80's hair metal bands, female empowerment, and quite frankly, my fudge kicks ass from here to China. (sorry for cursing) So those were the two ideas I came up with... I'm an artist myself but definitely not a graphic design artist, so I welcome any and all suggestions. I've come up with a catch-phrase of "Candy Is Chemistry" because it absolutely is... I'm half mad scientist when I put on my fudge making hat, and how do I get my fudge so to-die-for creamy? Ahhh that's straight up chemistry, my dear. I've got a strong science background, and anyway I just thought it was cool. Does it go on a logo? Does it go on the back of my business card with a picture of a sugar molecule? At the end of my email signature? I don't know, but I like it. One last thing I'd like to add... And I'm not sure if this would go on the logo itself or not... But I have Celiac disease and if you know anything about that, gluten is deadly poison! You won't die, but you'll wish you could because ingesting it is so incredibly painful. It's very important for me to get the message out there that my fudge and other candy is "crafted in a dedicated gluten-free facility" This is a HUGE deal for people who suffer with this autoimmune disease, and so often even a product that is "technically gluten-free" can become cross-contaminated if produced on equipment that is shared with other gluten containing products. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten sick from "gluten-free" foods, it totally sucks, and I want my clients to know that this will never, EVER be an issue. I have, and forever will have, a dedicated gluten-free facility. Does this go on a logo? On my business card and website? I don't know but this is a biggie. My apologies for writing this novel. I hope I haven't bored anyone to death. Thank you for your time and consideration, and I look forward to seeing what creative ideas anyone might have so I can get my railroaded career back on track, even if it's a totally different track... Like making (and actually earning a living from) my fudge "hobby". Merry Christmas, MJ
