We started developing an indoor map app 'MApp' a few years ago. It currently hosts almost a thousand indoor maps around the UK for places like hospitals, airports, museums, theme parks etc. However, it's out of date and needs a redesign. We've recently picked it up again and intend on improving its usability and functionality. As well as redesigning the app with its exciting functionality, we'd like to extend it to include interactive maps.
So, our goal is to have new designs for the app's existing functionality, plus the interactive maps that are yet to be developed. Ideally we'd like to have these designs in the form of an interactive prototype, to better communicate how the app will work.
Our users will be people who visit public indoor places such as shopping centres, airpots, museums, etc.
We'll be starting with shopping centres, so our main audience, as far as the designs are concerned, will be shoppers. We'd like them to easily find shopping centres that they've recently visited, have pinned, or are near them. They also need to be able to search. All places will have basic information such as address and opening hours. All places will have a basic map, which is just a static image/PDF of the place's floor plan; basically the same thing that you usually find printed and available in shopping centres.
Some places (not all) will also have enhanced interactive maps. These maps will be more engaging, allowing the user to search within maps, for example when they're looking for a particular shop in a shopping centre. Users will also be able to see special offers from shops, highlighted such that they can easily be found. There will also be markers for escalators, lifts, toilets, car parks, etc. There also needs to be an indoor navigation feature, where the user will enter the name of a shop they're close to, and where they'd like to go, and they will receive directions. We need to cover these interactive aspects of the app in the designs.
So, to clarify, there will be two kinds of maps. One basic static map (as we already include in our existing app) that every place will have. And an interactive map that only some places will have.
We'd also like to let the users send us feedback within the app itself, so that they can tell us if some map is out of date, that some information is incorrect, or to request a map that we haven't added yet.
We currently have the app on the iOS App Store from three years ago. It only hosts static maps and the plan is to redesign what we have: [url removed, login to view]
