Design a LED array with PET bottles.

3 things motivate this project:

1. Reuse, recycle. We LIVE by that. PET bottles (2.5 litter) sound like the perfect way to recycle.

2. Drop costs, both on the product itself, and on the electric bill.

3. Find optimal illumination. To me, we reach that when not any spot on the field is dark, but not any of the lamps is strong enough to blind you. Less LED's, more lamps = PERFECT.

You are here to do two things:

1. Educate me. I am a dreamer. I like to think about things and try to make them possible. I think this is the best way to make the world a better place. I know very close to nothing about electronics. Just like I know very close to nothing about many, many things, and that never stopped me from asking myself... hey, can this be done? So if what I say is wrong, cannot be done, or there's a clearly better way to do it, contradict me. Do not be shy. (Warning. I am a lawyer. If you contradict me, be ready for questions, and be ready to have eloquent answers. "I think it is not a good idea" or "I think it cannot be done" without a good series of WHY it cannot be done will not get me off your behind. :-). )

2. Turn my dream into a feasible electronics project with diagrams, a plan, a series of steps, a quick instructional video + PPT, a list of materials, a budget, a list of potential providers, hopefully on Ebay and a working prototype that you will mail to me.

The idea is simple: I need PVC tubes that carry cables (after reading a while, I guess, 110V powered cables, but may be other voltages work better). Attached to those are 2.5 litter PET bottles that have been worked to be reflective on one side (for example, painted with that paint they use to make mirrors), and with an X number of LED's inside. The project: Light a mini soccer field (30 x 16 meters or 100 x 50 feet)

The lights (bottles) should be waterproof (as in rain, not as in under water) and reasonably shock absorbent (as in one day, a soccer ball WILL hit them.) They should also be reasonably easy to replace :)

## Deliverables

ok... details...

here we go.

I am sure there will be many more questions along the way. I hope to be able to get the base idea across.

This is what I need:

1. You will help me create a diagram that solves what we need to do.

2. You will help me locate providers for all the electronic parts, hopefully on Ebay, with a choice to other pages, but unavoidably pages that can take a paypal payment.

3. You will create a simple PPT presentation (white background, black letters is fine. No need for "pretty") that will explain step by step the construction process of the solution. (or word document, or pdf, or HTML. whatever you prefer is fine.)

4. You will create a simple video (yup, cell phone video is fine) showing and explaining each step, like you were explaining it to a five year old. This video could be uploaded to youtube.

5. You will help me find a solution that turns the bottle into a reflector. so far I thought about:

a. the type of paint that they use to turn glass into mirrors. [[url removed, login to view]

b][1]. use aluminum foil

6. you will think of something that can make the bottle resistant to impact. at some point in time, it WILL get hit by a ball.
