The topic : Goods Distribution Simulation Model
Task
You are expected to come up with design for a Simulation Model. The deliverable of this project is submitting a report of your analysis and design. There will be a discussion after the submission.
Typically, the structure of the report should look similar to the following:
- Introduction
- Problem Definition
o Constraints of the system if there are any
- Objective - of your simulation model
- Simulation Model
- System Environment
- Entities – “the items of interest in the system”
o Entities Attributes. E.g. Arrival time (Which can differentiate separate entities within the system from the same kind)
o Entities can be people (customers, patients, workers, etc.) or objects (loan applications, purchase orders, computer pieces, documents, etc.).
- Resources (that process/serve the entity)
o Resources represent things like: Personnel, equipment, or space in a storage area of limited size.
- Queues
o Represent simulation term of lines:
An entity needs to wait in a queue when, for instance, it can’t seize a unit of a resource that is tied up by another entity.
- Systems state(s):
o The collection of variables necessary to describe the system at any time. E.g. In a bank model, the state of system can be determined by:
State of cashier (Idle/busy)
Number of customers in waiting list.
- Analysis
> Narration of how the Entities are processed (this should be the main focus of your project, and should be detailed as much as possible). You can also block it in different scenarios.
- Design
o Flow Diagram illustrates the big picture of your simulation model –which can be more than one-.
Should show Entities/ how are they being served/processed and how they are put in lines (Queues).
- Conclusion
o Describe how in a real-world example you would be able to use that model to achieve your objective. Remember we are only designing not implementing the model.
