We are the developers of Zorin OS ([url removed, login to view]), an Ubuntu-based distribution aimed at newcomers to Linux. We have recently become a very popular Linux distribution: we are currently ranked as the number 1 desktop Linux distro on [url removed, login to view] and the number 22 Linux distro on DistroWatch.com. We have just reached 1.5 million users and the popularity of Zorin OS is skyrocketing.
Now we would like to talk about a problem we are facing. Last year has seen many drastic changes in Linux desktop environments with the advent of both GNOME Shell and Unity. Zorin OS uses our own Zorin Look Changer program which allows users to switch between Windows 7, Linux (GNOME 2) or Mac OS X interfaces, all of which have used GNOME Panel 2 as a vital component. We have no choice but to look for an alternative panel program after the move to GNOME 3 software in newer versions of Zorin OS (as the next version of Zorin OS will be based on Ubuntu 12.04), because the panel applets (which we need in Zorin OS) that worked in GNOME Panel 2 no longer work in GNOME Panel 3.
AWN is currently our only choice for a panel as GNOME Panel 3 no longer works with the panel applets that are critical for Zorin OS. The only thing that is stopping us from completing the next version of Zorin OS is this bug in the AWN Indicator applet plugin: https://bugs.launchpad.net/awn-extras/+bug/871253. The optimal solution to this problem would probably be porting indicator-applet-complete (the Gtk3 version) to GTK2 to make it compatiblw with AWN, if possible. We would advise you to use the Ubuntu 12.04 Beta ([url removed, login to view]) to help fix this problem.

Hi, I wrote a new applet awn-indicator3-applet for you, it works on ubuntu 11.10 and ubuntu 12.04. The attachment is a screenshot.
